In our country there have been many acts of destruction that can be referred to as a Holocaust. Whether it was the mass murder of Jews under the German Nazi or the September 11th terrorist attack. That day changed the lives of millions. Many lives were taken on that day and many families were torn apart. People lost loved ones and many people sacrificed their lives for our country. From that day on, we will always be affected by what occurred. We will always grieve and remember the brave Americans that sacrificed so much for us.

Since 911, our country has grown and learned from the terrible Holocaust that took place.

Elie Wiesel
Elie Wiesel is the author of the book Night. He is a very inspiring author. He experienced and went through tragic containment in the Nazis camps. He was able to tell the story and let us feel what horrible act took place. He never let the harsh punishment slow him down.

The picture is cited on this website..

Symbolism
Darkness and night symbolize a world without God’s presence. In Night, Wiesel explains this allusion. Night always occurs when suffering is worst, and its presence reflects Eliezer’s belief that he lives in a world without God. The first time Eliezer mentions that “night fell” is when his father is interrupted while telling stories and informed about the deportation of Jews. Also, it is “darkness” when the prisoners begin their horrible run from Buna.

Theme

A theme is an important lesson you learned. There are several themes you could give Night. The Importance of Remembering is one main theme from the book. One of Wiesel's main objectives in writing Night is to remind his audience that the Holocaust occurred, in hopes that it will never repeat itself. Wiesel has maintained his eye against hatred and inhumanity throughout the novel

The Roaring Twenties

Living in the 1920's would be a lot more difficult than today.

I think I would enjoy living in the present day much more than in the 20's. Starting with the perfect dress to your french-tipped toes. Most girls begin preparing for their prom night a month or two before.

My prom experience began finding the perfect dress and shoes. Then, I bought matching jewelery. There were several appointments that needed to be made too. First, I had to make one for my toe nails and finger nails, then my hair appointment, and of course dinner reservations.

My night started off at 1:30. I was first off to get my hair rolled up. I went back at 4:45 to get in fixed up. I then rushed off to Lyon College to take a million pictures with all my friends. With all my friends, we headed to Josies to eat a delicious dinner. With a party for 25, we had the best time. We couldn't stop laughing about old memories and talking about what the night was going to bring.

After dinner, it was prom time. Off to the dance we went. We danced and danced all night and took a million more pictures.

After prom, my whole group of friends built a bonfire. We continued our dance party while just having a good time together. We always have fun being together. After all, high school is about making memories with your best friends.

Prom was a great time for me. I enjoyed being in a big group with all my friends. We captured every moment of the night.

The Lucky One- Book Review

Nicholas Spark's book, The Lucky One, was a great book.

He lets the reader really feel how strong the power of love is. When reading this book, you can relate each character to someone in your life.

The main character, Thibault, decided to find out who was in the picture he found in Iraq. He took a leap of faith and went to North Carolina to figure out why this picture had brought him so much fortune. Since he had this picture in his possession, nothing but good luck has been brought on him. He figured out that the women in the picture was not only his good luck, but the women he loved.

This book was really good and I would recommend it to anyone who loves a romantic love story. While reading this good, you will feel every emotion. You will come to realize that nothing is impossible and anything can happen.

Nature's First Green Is Gold

Every year when Spring rolls around, we know it's getting closer to summer. With only a few months left in school, I begin thinking about the great times I will have this summer.

When it's Spring time, my allergies begin to bother me. When I see all the pollen on the cars and houses, I know it's back again. I began to get bad migraines and sneeze all day long.

Last week, we began to take nature walks at school. We noticed all the trees changing colors. At the tops of the trees there was gold and the leaves are beginning to come back. Soon, they will change to many different colors. Next, we noticed the flowers. They are beginning to bloom and turn into beautiful colors.

Despite my allergies, I love Spring time. It's a beautiful time of year! I love seeing all the trees and flowers changing colors. The sun brightening and warming up the day is another part of Spring I love. It is named after Saint Patrick, the most commonly recognized patron saints in Ireland. Over the years to color green is associated with this day. Saint Patrick used the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity.

On this day, it is a normal day for most of us. Just like every other day, we attend school. The color green fills the halls. We wear the color green, for good luck. If you don't have green on, you might expect to get pinched by our classmates.

Today we need to think about all the things that are lucky in our life. We need to realize that we are very lucky. We have so much to be thankful for.

She Said Yes - Book Review

She Said Yes is a touching book by Misty Bernall. Misty tells the story of her 17 year old daughter, Cassie, who was killed in the Columbine High Schools massacre.

The book starts out from Misty's point of view. Cassie got stuck in the wrong group of friends. She had struggled with having true friends during high school.

One day changed the Bernall's family forever. Cassie had gone to school just like every other day. When two fellow students burst in, Cassie was hiding under a school table, hands clasped in prayer. They held a gun to her head and asked if she believed in God. She said yes. Before she could answer a second question of why, they shot her.

This was a very inspirational book. I would recommend it to everyone. It shows the courage one teenage girl had. She stood up for what she believed and stuck to her morals.

Everyone will remember the horrific event that took place at Columbine High School. Many family's and groups of friends will never be the same, without their loved ones.

Olympic-size commitment

I would make such a commitment, like the people in the Olympics do, for my future. It looks at how the main character, Amir, deals with a secret in his past and how that secret shaped who he became. It tells of Amir's childhood friendship with Hassan, his relationship with his father, and growing up in a privileged place in society.

In the beginning, Amir was jealous of the time Baba and Hassan spent together. Even though, we know we both love each other with all our hearts, we didn't always show it.

When I was younger, I always wanted to follow my sister and her friends around. I wanted to go every where they would go and do what they did. Ashton would always yell at me to leave her alone, but I never wanted to leave.

If Ashton had one of my shirts on, I of course had to wear that shirt that day. We would fuss and fight over who got to wear the shirt. If I had something of hers on she had to have it back too.

Before every pageant, I always wanted Ashton to do my make-up. Knowing how it would end up, I still wanted her to do it. We would always end up yelling at each other and sometimes I would end up in tears. Ruining my make-up, she had to fix it again.

As we have grown up, we have become a lot closer. She is one of my best friends. We have learned how to share and let each other borrow stuff. She has allowed me to go eat with her friends and be around them. She can get me ready for all my pageants and dances now without someone ending up hurt or in tears. She has always been there for me. I can always count on her with whatever I need.

Family members will sometimes have civil wars amongst each other. Arthur Miller's The Crucible, draws the reader back in time to the trying times of the Salem Witchcraft Trials.

In the beginning, the book takes place in Salem, Massachusetts during the 17 century. Where Abigail Williams seems to be in the middle of everything. She tries to blame everything on other people to keep her out of trouble.

They think that the Devil is hanging around the town of Salem, and they want him out. The only way that can happen is if all of the girls admit and repent their sins. John Proctor and Abigail have a conversation referring to their affair. Abigail wants him to confess his love for her, but he refuses to have any further involvement with her. Reverend John Hale, a man known to be an authority on the matter of witchcraft, is determined to drive the evil spirits away from Salem.

John Proctor's wife, Elizabeth, argues with him that he must go and turn Abby in to the court, saying that she is a fraud. John is reluctant to get involved with the witch-hunt.

At the court, depositions are given and names are mentioned. Anyone whose name is mentioned is questioned, specifically by Deputy Governor Danforth and Reverend Parris.

Chaos breaks out.

John Proctor goes to the court to try and save his wife. He brings Mary Warren to testify that all the girls were lying about the witchcraft. All of the girls are brought in for questioning. Abby maintains that she is telling the truth and accuses Mary of lying. John admits that he is a lecher and says that Abby is a whore. Elizabeth is brought in for questioning, but she denies that her husband is a lecher.

If you enjoy a book full of suspense, I recommend you read The Crucible by Aurthur Miller.

Bullying

Bullying is everywhere. You aren't the only one. Laurie Halse Anderson's novel Speak mesmerised me with her courage and strength.

In the beginning, Melinda Sordina, seems like a normal high school girl. She shuffles her way through the crowded hallways of her new school, her old friends are changing and she's having a hard time fitting in.

At an end of summer party, a senior boy named Andy took advantage of her. He rapped her. Dazed and drunk, Melinda called the cops but left before they arrived.

After that night, no one could forgive her. Her friends wouldn't talk to her, and everyone ignored her. No one wanted to listen to Melinda's explanations, and well, Melinda didn't even feel like talking to anyone about that night.

Melinda felt like an outcast. She had no friends to talk to. She carried the burden of this alone, confused, and tortured.

Even though, I do not know anyone who has gone through what Melinda had to. I do feel bullying is a big problem in the world today. People get bullied all the time. They are also too afraid to talk to someone about their problems.

I feel a good theme for Speak would be hands and words are not for hurting. Bullying is terrible. No one should feel afraid or feel like they are being bullied.

In conclusion, I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to every teenager. Teens need to read and understand how it is for someone that is bullied. They need to realize what some people are having to go through. And make sure that they are never treating someone with disrespect.

The Red Badge of Courage

Stephen Crane's The Red Badge of Courage inspired me.

In the beginning, Henry Fleming enters the army with strong romantic feelings about war. After experiencing the realities of army life, he becomes plagued by doubts and fears.

Henry wakes from a brief nap to find that the enemy is again charging his regiment. Terror overtakes him this time and he leaps up and flees the line. As he runs across the field, he tells himself that he made the right decision, that his regiment could not have won, and that the men who remained to fight were fools.

Later on, Henry passes a group of wounded soldiers. He is deeply envious of these men, thinking that their wounds are like “a red badge of courage". He meets a tattered man who has been shot twice and who speaks proudly of the fact that his regiment did not flee. He repeatedly asks Henry where he is wounded, which makes Henry deeply uncomfortable because he has no wounds to show.

After Henry is hit over the head during his flight from the front he is able to clarify his understanding of his role of what it means to be a soldier. He overcomes his fears and quilt to become one of the fiercest, most aggressive soldiers in the regiment. He accepts duty by showing the confidence and courage required to be a soldier.

Next, a good theme for The Red Badge of Courage would be never to give up. Henry was afraid of the war ,but later on he realized he could make a difference and he over came his fears.

In conclusion, I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who is trying to over a fear or hardship in life.

Touching Spirit Bear

Ben Mikaelsen's Touching Spirit Bear touched my heart.

First of all, everything in Cole Matthews life is a circle. At the age of fifteen he is already a juvenile delinquent. His parents are strong alcoholics and his dad is a child molester. He hurts Cole almost every night. One day, Cole has enough and takes his anger out on poor Peter Driscal. He takes his head and smashes it into the sidewalk.

Next, for his punishment, he goes to an island in Alaska and has to stay for a year. Cole tries to escape several times, but always fails. When he spots the Spirit Bear, he hates it for not being afraid of him.

Fianlly, after getting a second change to stay on the island, Cole must find a way to help Peter. Peter stays on the island with him. He soaks in the river and carrys the ancestor rock up the hill just like Cole does.

In conclusion, a good theme for this book would be hands and words are not for hurting. You should never bully or tease anyone. I really enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to any high school student.

Loving Natalee

"Hope is the only thing, that keeps me holding on." Beth Holloway's Loving Natalee mesmerized me with her strength.

First of all, Beth Holloway is the mother of Natalee Holloway. Natalee has been missing from Aruba since May 2005. Natalee was on her senior trip, along with several other classmates. She never showed up at the airport, for her flight home.

Natalee grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. She was an honors student, on the dance team, and was involved in several extracurricular activities. She planned to use her scholarship to attend the University of Alabama and become a Pediatrician.

Next, Beth has been such an inspiration to me. Her faith has shown me that the power of faith can give us hope against all odds. Beth never gave up looking for her daughter.

I personally connected with Loving Natalee. Beth has been my mother's best friend since kindergarten. My mother and I have visited Beth at her house in Birmingham during her search for her daughter. Beth is a very strong and inspiring lady.

Lastly, A good theme for Loving Natalee is live each day to the fullest; you never know when it might be your last. Always be nice to everyone and treat others with respect. Both Beth and Natalee, never dreamed it would be the last time they would see each other before she left for Aruba.

To this day, everyone is still searching for any clues of Natalee. Beth travels to schools spreading the words of teens and their safety. She has made a lifetime movie and has written the book Loving Natalee. I enjoyed this book very much. I would recommend this book to every teenage student. Every teen needs to be educated about situations that have happened to prevent bad situations happening to them.

Paradise

Where is your paradise?

My paradise is Destin, Florida. I enjoy spending one week every summer on the sandy white beach. Spending just one week, once a year is not enough time in paradise.

I wake up early every morning and rush down to the ocean. With my rafts and tanning lotion close by, I relax all day. I soak up as much Florida sunshine as I can.

Falling asleep to the sound of the emerald waves crashing against the shore, is the best feeling in the world. I love taking a long walk down the beach, watching the hundreds of people enjoying the beautiful beach too.

There are several activities I enjoy doing while I'm in paradise. You can parasail, kayak, go deep sea fishing, or go shopping. This year, while I was in Destin, I learned how to paddle surf. It was a lot of fun, but a ton of hard work. When I get home from paradise, I feel like I have gained fifteen pounds from eating all the wonderful foods.

It would be wonderful if I could live in Florida. Being able to spend every day in paradise, would be so great. I cant wait until next summer, when I can go back to the best place in the world.
